Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Safely and accurately collecting blood specimens from patients using appropriate venipuncture techniques.
- Verifying patient information and labeling specimens to ensure accurate identification and tracking.
- Monitoring and maintaining inventory of phlebotomy supplies and equipment, restocking as needed.
- Maintaining accurate records of collected specimens, including patient information, date, and time of collection.
Skills and Qualifications After Completion of Course:
- Valid certification as a Phlebotomy Technician (CPT) from an accredited program.
- Proficient knowledge of venipuncture techniques and blood collection procedures.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate specimen labeling and documentation.
- Solid understanding of infection control protocols and adherence to safety guidelines.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and basic understanding of laboratory tests and procedures.
***Please be aware that before taking the national certification exam, students are typically required to perform at least 30 venipunctures and 10 capillary or fingersticks on live individuals. This practical experience is essential for developing the skills necessary to conduct blood collection procedures safely and effectively.
